The Empress Elisabeth Museum of the municipality of P\u00f6cking is located in the historic train station Possenhofen, built under King Ludwig II and put into operation in 1865. The Possenhofen train station is an early work of the court architect Georg von Dollmann, who later built Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee and the Schachenhaus for Ludwig II and also supervised the construction of Neuschwanstein.
The museum was founded in 1998 and is based on the collection of the Heinemann couple. Today it is owned by the municipality of P\u00f6cking and is an attraction of the international Sisi Road (www.sisi-strasse.info). Since the renovation in 2009\/2010 the museum shines in new splendor.
Empress Elisabeth first arrived here in 1869 in her salon carriage. She and her family members, as well as Emperor Franz Joseph, kings and the nobility, used the sumptuously furnished “high-class waiting salon for the highest and very highest rulers”, the so-called King’s Salon, for arrivals and departures, which houses the core of the collection. In total, the museum extends on the first floor, barrier-free over 4 rooms. The unique permanent exhibition on the theme of “Empress Elisabeth and her family” is constantly changing due to new acquisitions. It therefore remains exciting to go on a voyage of discovery in the footsteps of the Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary.<\/p>\n

The Empress Elisabeth Museum in P\u00f6cking-Possenhofen is a tourist magnet for locals as well as for visitors from all over the world. There are few other places where the life of the legendary Austrian Empress Elisabeth, known as Sisi, can be experienced as closely as here. International guests are offered a free six-language audio tour guide for touring the museum for free as an app. This allows visitors to use their own smartphone and headphones to view the showcases in a relaxed, random manner. The visit is also an unforgettable experience for children with a crown search game and a child-friendly audio guide, designed by children for children. For elementary schools, after-school programs and children’s stays at the Possenhofen Youth Hostel, a museum educational suitcase, the “Sisi-Mobil”, is available for preparation. Recently, the museum also offers a video guide in international sign language for the deaf and hard of hearing, downloadable for free as an app.<\/p>\n

The museum is accessible by S-Bahn S6 Munich-Tutzing, stop Possenhofen.
Just a 10-minute walk away on the shores of Lake Starnberg is Possenhofen Castle, affectionately called “Possi” by the empress, the former summer residence of the ducal family. Another 30 minutes walk south on the “Elisabethweg” you reach the Rose Island, where the empress met with King Ludwig II. The museum therefore also displays exhibits relating to King Ludwig II and Lake Starnberg.
A special feature of the museum is that the team of guides volunteers gladly share their profound knowledge with interested visitors. Special tours are offered for children as well as adults throughout the year by appointment.<\/p>\n

In the right part of the station there is also the museum store, where visitors can buy tickets, specialized literature and souvenirs.
